Sakarya University is located in northwestern Turkey, about half an hour away from Istanbul by bus. Sakarya University was founded in 1970. Initially, it was an engineering and architectural institute. In 1971, it was transformed into a large engineering and architectural academy, supported by the government. Between 1982 and 1992, it was affiliated with Istanbul Technical University as its Faculty of Engineering.
On July 3, 1992, the Sakarya Engineering and Architecture Academy was transformed into Sakarya Comprehensive Education University by virtue of Law No. 3837 of the Turkish Parliament. Although Sakarya University is a new university, it is the first state university to receive the government's "Educational Quality Certificate" in the field of administrative departments, as well as the "Quality Certificate for High Technical Modernity in the field of engineering."
